Let’s all welcome Dean Wilkinson, writer on games including LittleBigPlanet 1 and 2, Driver San Francisco, Kinect Sports, Buzz and more, as this month’s GameCityNights headliner, who will offer insight into how to write for the games industry.
With a career focusing on comedy and spanning TV, radio, novels and games, there’s little Wilkinson hasn’t tackled, including being one of the men responsible for catapulting Ant & Dec to fame and fortune as a writer on SMTV Live (we’re about 80% sure that’s a good thing). Wilkinson also enjoys the rare status of being paid to tell the eternally eloquent word warrior Stephen Fry what to say, having penned Fry’s Little-Big-Planet tutorials.
Writing for games is one of the few areas in the industry we haven’t focused much attention during our illustrious history, and it’s high time we resolved this.
Also, we’ve got another double headliner this month with two From The Desk Of… appearances. Bennett Foddy, creator of QWOP, GIRP and Pole Riders, (all cause for significant drops in productivity at GameCity HQ upon release) and Ed Key, creator of the brilliant exploration title Proteus, will share their inspirations, aspirations and deepest, darkest secret desires via Skype.
As ever, GameCityNights will including the very best indie developers showcasing their work alongside the latest AAA titles, Owain Davies’ House Band, a chance for one lucky audience member to Beat the Bull, acerbic & comedic commentary from Paul Butler’s Augmented Vision, A Winner is You prize fund, wholesome hot food and a well stocked bar will round out the night.
