Season 3, Episode 3
Thursday 29 March

What with GameCity being a project of Nottingham Trent University, it’s fair to say that we’re rather enthusiastic about games academia. So, we’re incredibly excited to announce the details for this month’s GameCityNights, Episode 3, which will be headlined by Dan Pinchbeck.

Mr Pinchbeck is a researcher and senior games lecturer at University of Portsmouth AND the founder of thechineseroom, creators of the brilliant and hugely successful title, Dear Esther.

Dear Esther (screens below) is an experimental, first person adventure title which tackles new narrative devices in games. Originally created as a Half Life 2 mod, thanks to backing from the Indie Fund, it recently launched as a full title on Steam and recouped the money in less than SIX HOURS! With over 16,000 sales on day one, it seems this experiment has paid off.

Now, Pinchbeck is going to headline March’s Nights. Looking at the mix of academia and development, and how the two inform and compliment one another, Pinchbeck will peel back the layers of games development and share his knowledge with the crowd, from launching a start-up to bringing a game to market, and more.

Not only that, we’ll have Luke Whittaker of the mighty State of Play Games taking us through IGF finalist Lume; for anyone who’s not seen this game in action, its hand cut visuals are utterly charming.

We’ll also have the usual medley of indie games, Beat the Bull, competitions, prizes and more. Expect more news over the rest of the week.
