Along with our pals at EMI we’re going to run a pretty cool competition at this weeks Nights.

But first things first, have you all seen Rome? If not, perhaps we should fill you in?

Rome “3 Dreams of Black” is an impressive WebGL interactive video for musician/producer Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi’s single “Black”. Directed by Chris Milk and in collaboration with a team of Google’s megaboffins, The project was released onto the internet earlier this year and showcased the capabilities of Chrome’s new web standard to stunning effect.

“3 Dreams of Black” takes you on a journey through three dream worlds constructed through a combination of rich 2D drawings and animations interwoven with interactive 3D sequences. Throughout various points in these dream worlds, you can grab your mouse and guide the protagonist’s point of view through the experience. This music experience also includes a 3D model creator that allows you to create your own relics and contribute to the shared collective dream.

As part of Google’s series of Chrome Experiments, “3 Dreams of Black” is an open-source project and available to developers who want to poke around under the bonnet. You can see demonstrations of the tech on the Rome website and get the code directly from Google Code.

Right, back to the competition!

After navigating through the rabbit hole that is “3 Dreams of Black”, viewers are invited to “add to the dream” by constructing objects in a sandbox environment called the Dream Tool. Throughout the evening, we want you to build something wonderful, something jaw-droppingly beautiful, something Escher would be proud of, that can be submitted as part of the 3rd Dream.

Or just make a big Horace.

So, bring along a laptop if you have one, or use one of ours that will be set up in Antenna, ready for you magnificent creative beasts to do your magic. There’ll be prizes for the best entries.
