How to bring down an evil Baron from the inside

There’s nothing like announcing a surprise addition to an event to help battle the Monday blues. With this in mind, we raided the GameCity storage cupboard and delved deep into our Box o’ Awesum to find something suitable to brighten the day.

Upon opening said box, we were greeted by another, slightly smaller box, within which was, to our astonishment, another slightly smaller box. After repeating this formula of opening box after box, not only did the office feel more like Ikea than GameCity, but we finally found inspiration (and many empty boxes).

Kick starting the ‘From the Desk of’ feature for 2011, Double Fine Art Director and creator of the wonderful Stacking, Lee Petty will join us via the wonders of the web to unstack the details behind his delightful creation at GameCityNights Episode 2, this Friday.

Stacking is a unique and beautifully designed game using Russian matryoshka dolls as the characters. The player controls the smallest doll, Charlie Blackmore, who uses the abilities of larger dolls to solve puzzles on his adventure to free his siblings who’ve been forced into child labor by the evil Baron. It’s amazing.

Lee is a brilliant artist and it clearly took the work of a talented mind to invent a game like Stacking and an innovative, exemplary studio to get behind it.

The inspiration behind Stacking, amnesia fortnight, working with Tim Schaefer; the list of topics to quiz Petty on is too exhaustive to cover ourselves, so when we’re finished, we’ll turn him over to you for a short Q&A section.

GameCityNights Season 2 Episode 2 takes place at Antenna on Beck Street, from 6-11pm on Friday 25th Feb. £5 advance tickets available here.
